Scripts MUST be your original work, written SPECIFICALLY for audio theatre.
Submitted stage scripts, screenplays, treatments, video scripts, short stories, poems or other dramatic forms will not be considered.
Adaptations of your own work (from another form such as short story, stage play, or screenplay) ARE allowed, but must be presented as a working script created solely for audio to be considered.
Adaptations of another author's work are NOT allowed!
- Submitted scripts must not be produced and free of any existing contractual or other production restrictions. Unpublished scripts are welcome. We need you to verify that Mind's Ear CAN produce your script if you win, and that no other pre-existing agreements with other producers or publishers would conflict with that.
- Collaborations (the work of two or more authors) are allowed. Please submit one Playwright Information Form per author. Distribution of any prize monies awarded will be the sole responsibility of the co-authors. Each author will receive a copy of the finished production of their work (First and Second prizes only). Only one copy of French Quarter or The Dante Experience will be awarded per prize. (Additional copies will be made available at cost to winning co-authors.)
- Multiple submissions by the same author(s) are encouraged! We, as playwrights ourselves, know that it can be difficult to select only one work to represent your voice. We're interested in your range, as well! Please submit ONE playwright information form (per author) and one entry form and release form and entry fee per title. Good luck!
- Have you written an entire series? We'd like to see the first complete episode, and a synopsis of the rest of the series. Please complete the Official Series Entry Form Questions segment of the entry forms page!
- The preferred length is equivalent to a "one act" play (up to 30 minutes) but scripts of all lengths are welcome and allowed.
- IMPORTANT! To ensure that all scripts are judged impartially and fairly, the judges must not be allowed to learn (or discern) the identity of the playwright. Please remove ALL REFERENCES to your identity from your script! Your script will be assigned an entry number when it arrives, and only the Mind's Ear official in charge of the contest will know the identity of the individual playwrights. Please remove your name and other identifying information from all header and footer settings before printing your script. (we also suggest that you do not submit all your plays in the same font
- ANNUAL DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: All entries must be postmarked by midnight of TUESDAY, JANUARY 16, 2007. Sorry, no late entries will be accepted.
- INTERNATIONAL ENTRIES: May be made electronically IF you cannot get hard copy to us in time for the deadline. International playwrights are encouraged check with their local mail service for estimated delivery times to the US! This can take up to 8 weeks from some countries. International Playwrights, contact us and ask about email entries!
- AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY! This competition is open to all audio playwrights. Period. You may enter regardless of professional status, production history, age, race, background, nationality, educational status, religion, political affiliation, gender, or favorite flavor of ice cream. If you have written it, you're qualified and welcome to enter! It is as simple as that.
- A NOTE ON LANGUAGE: For practical considerations, we do ask that all entries be written in English. But this competition is open to audio playwrights worldwide!
- WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED on the final Friday of February each year, at noon (Eastern time). Winner's names, location, and script names will be posted on this website at noon on the day of announcement. Individual winners will also receive a personalized email confirming their placement at the same time.
- Mind's Ear reserves the right to NOT name a winner in the unlikely event that there are simply NO scripts worthy of production. We will not name a winner simply to name a winner; in the event that we do not name a winner, or produce a script, profits from the current competition will be added to the prize pool for future competitions. Do note that this has NEVER happened in the history of the competition, but that doesn't mean it CAN'T happen, so we have this policy in place, publically, in case we are simply unable to find a script we COULD produce. To prevent this from happening, dear playwrights, submit your best work. Raise the bar so high that we have no choice BUT to go into studio.
- GOOD LUCK!
