MIND'S EAR ANNOUNCES OPEN AUDITIONS |
When: |
Saturday, October 28 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm |
Where: |
Monroe County Public Library Auditorium |
Who: |
Auditions are open to all interested parties.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO ROLES OR OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERFORMERS UNDER THE AGE OF 15! |
Casting Needs |
We are casting for two one-act audio plays(comedies) to be produced this fall, and for upcoming voiceover opportunties. We will post specific casting needs soon.
AUTHENTIC AND/OR BELIEVABLE UK ACCENTS NEEDED!
WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR JUST "JOE RADIO" ANNOUNCERS! We are looking for a wider VARIETY of voices than most producers seek -- and THAT is what makes our company unusual in this industry. We want people with clear, interesting voices who can inject some life into these projects.
|
Scripts |
Both of the audio plays are original, unproduced works - and winners of our most recent script competition. Please click here to learn more about the two plays we're producing this fall. We are producing "Duet for One" and "The Snowman Always Shovels Twice."
Audition scripts will be available at the audition. Our audition sides are unusual: to streamline the audition process, we have selected monolgues from within the scripts. They are short, sweet, and to the point. We have not posted audition scripts because we need to hear how well you can present the material WITHOUT preparation and rehearsal. You'll have time to review the audition pieces when you arrive. Don't worry - we won't rush you in front of the microphone. We do NOT want you to memorize anything, so don't bother! We just need to hear how well you can quickly interpret the script and present a character, as our rehearsal process is intense and short!

AUDITION FORMS |
DOWNLOAD, PRINT, AND BRING WITH YOU TO AUDITIONS! | WORD | PDF |
What to Bring |
If you have downloaded an audition form PDF or WORD , bring that!
Once you have completed the ONLINE AUDITION FORM, please print TWO COPIES, and bring both to the auditions.
If you have a performance résumé or audition CD, by all means, BRING THEM! (But they are NOT required).
Please bring a clean photocopy of your headshot (keep the expensive prints for visual casting directors); we just want a copy of your smiling face for our records, but it doesn't need to be the full-color glossies you've paid a lot of money for! If you don't have a headshot, ask your buddy to snap your picture and print that out for us. Again, we are NOT casting for looks! We just want to know what you look like (in case it is MONTHS before we call you!)
A cheerful and patient spirit! |
Experience Requirements |
NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED for the volunteer-based audio+theatre troupe (which performs our audio plays). Experience working on a microphone is PREFERRED for the sound+services company (which creates our voiceover projects). Participaton with either company is by invitation only, and either company may be asked to perform in any upcoming Mind's Ear production. |

Rehearsal Requirements |
AND YES! YOU CAN BE INVOLVED IN OUR PRODUCTIONS EVEN IF YOU ARE ALREADY COMMITTED TO ANOTHER SHOW. Our time requirements are so minimal that ALL interested parties SHOULD audition, regardless of current or future production obligations!
AUDIO + THEATRE COMPANY: Audio theatre is a VERY time-effecient creative process, and unlike a traditional stage play, we DO NOT REHEARSE extensively. Therefore, the ability to QUICKLY interpret dialogue and develop your character on demand is CRUCIAL! For a typical one-act audio play, there is a two-evening commitment (which INCLUDES both rehearsal AND recording!) and then the show is done for your purposes. Both shows will be made available for Christmas 2006 release, so we will go in to production sometime in November (based on both studio and talent availabiliy).
SOUND + SERVICES COMPANY:
Our professional voiceover projects come to us throughout the year. There is no way to predict when a member of our professional company will be needed, but MOST of these jobs can be recorded in a single session, and our studio hours are VERY flexible to meet your availability. WE DO NOT DO THE CASTING FOR OUR PRO JOBS - our clients do. If invited into our sound + services company, your audition will be added to a private online casting "lounge" which our many clients use. If we get a request for your services, we will be in touch, and if you can do the session, we will email a script as soon as we have it.
|
Appointments |
Appointments are NOT required! First come, first heard.
We will do all we can to get you in and out as quickly as we can, but please be patient if there is a large crowd. Bring a book; there will be downtime as you're waiting to be heard. Some people may be asked to stay so that we can hear you read against other actors. |
Cast Lists |
CAST LISTS WILL BE POSTED HERE ON OCTOBER 29!
AND YES! YOU CAN BE INVOLVED IN OUR PRODUCTIONS EVEN IF YOU ARE ALREADY COMMITTED TO ANOTHER SHOW. Our time requirements are so minimal that ALL interested parties SHOULD audition. |
We pride ourselves on our supportive, friendly, professional and collaborative production attitude.
We CELEBRATE the people who ARE Mind's Ear. Unlike most theatre companies, who bafflingly consider the talent expendable and disposable, we are well-known for the way we honor and reward those who make our work possible. Actors in Mind's Ear productions are often invited to cast parties, broadcast parties, and other informal gatherings as our way to thank them for being a part of our creative family. In addition, each and every member of our cast and crew recieves complimentary copies of the finished show on CD, and a lifetime discount on all Mind's Ear titles.
It thrills us when our actors say things like "This is the most fun I've ever had working on a show" or "You folks really know how to treat an actor" or "I can't believe how much I learned". We work hard to make sure that the talented people in our lives are appreciated and come out of our studio feeling like they've grown as performers.
