Follow the process of bringing Mourning Lori to the stage!
FROM THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR by Joel Pierson |
| |
Mourning Lori is a new full-length drama by Joel Pierson , and will be presented October 4-6 and 11-13 at the John Waldron Arts Center's Rose Firebay, as part of the 2007-08 Performance Series. Directed by its author, the play is an examination of family relationships and how individuals sometimes define themselves in terms of another's perceptions and needs. |

The Abrams family gathers for the funeral of their mother, Lori. For middle son, David, it's particularly bad timing. He's recovering from a nervous breakdown after an unpleasant divorce from a Hollywood actress, and the prospect of being strong for his grieving father and sisters is difficult. Even more difficult is David's realization that he alone can still see, hear, and talk to his mother. Unsure if he is psychic or just psychotic, David must find the courage to prepare for the hardest day of his life. Mourning Lori is an honest and heartfelt examination of love and loss, and the laughter that's needed to keep tears at bay. |

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT |
Joel Pierson (playwright/director) is artistic director of Mind’s Ear Productions. He is the author of the successful audio dramas French Quarter and The Children’s Zoo, and the novelization of French Quarter. He is also the co-author of the play Hamlet Overheard: Bad Quarto, Bad!, which is a part of the permanent collection at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C.
His audio production company, Mind's Ear Audio, produced the official audio tour of Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C., and will soon begin production on new tours for other prominent properties managed by the Department of the Interior.
Joel directed "Cannibal: The Musical" at the Waldron, and has had several plays produced at the BPP. He writes the "Theater" column for the Herald-Times, and is also a regular contributor to the chamber's Business Network. He has served on the board and as a trainer for both the Midwest Radio Theatre Workshop, and he led the writing track at the 2007 National Audio Theatre Festival Conference.
By day, he is a book editor, and when he’s not producing audio and/or theatre, he enjoys spending time with his family, including his three wonderfully goofy Russian wolfhounds and one wonderfully goofy wife. |
